How to write a good book

First, you need to pick one out of the three: Fiction, Non-fiction, and poetry. Are you a creative writer,  A poetic person, or someone who likes to write about facts?

Then, pick your genre (for fiction). What type of story are you going to write? Here is a list of genres:

Flash fiction

Science fiction(Sci-fi)

Fantasy

Romance

Horror

Historical fiction

Teen fiction

Action

Adventure

Etc.

If you don't yet have an idea, leave it as General fiction.

The Next step is to choose your main character. What is his/her gender? What is his/her name? How does he/she behave? What does he/she like? Does he/she have any conflict between his/her personalities? Ask yourself these questions.

Then, choose your secondary character. If your main character is a protagonist, it is probably the best that you choose an antagonist. For example, the secondary character is the main character's family member that longs for murder.

If you finished that, it's time to set the story plot. A good story plot could drive your story all on its own. For example, the main character got delivery in their mailbox and had to face a part of his/her life before.

Next step: Set goals for your writing. For example, on Monday you could write about 100 words of your book, Tuesday rest, and so on.

Last step: Edit! Edit, edit, edit. Get your peer, teacher or a family member to review your work. If they are satisfied, then you should move onto the final step: Publishing.

I will post another blog about how exactly you could do that, so stay tuned!

Self-publishing your story

Where to publish my story? I struggle with that, and I know so do you. There are a couple ways to let your story be on public display. Today, we will talk about self-publishing. It is the best way to get your book known for new authors. Here are some platforms you could use: Wattpad, Amazon, WritersCafe, etc. Wattpad: Wattpad is an online platform for authors and readers alike. Wattpad's "nextbeta" project is currently paying writers. Only 50 writers are currently in the project right now, though. Wattpad is the best choice for you if you like writing but don't expect to earn profit from it. It is a good website for readers and writers alike. There are a lot of contests on Wattpad, such as  https://www.wattpad.com/story/185495418-1000-words-or-less-flash-fiction-contest  for flash fiction writers. Sites similar to Wattpad are such as "Underlined", "Writer's Cafe", "fictionpress" and much more, but Wattpad is the best choice.

Literary Journals

Another way of publishing your story is by submitting to Literary Journals. Some Literary Journals pay their authors, some don't. Literary Journals are a good spot for flash fiction, poetry, short stories, etc, while traditional publishing doesn't usually accept short novels. Literary Journals are online websites that showcase work from accepted authors. They are a good reliable source of publishing. Some literary journals pay you, like  Page & Spine  and  The Threepenny Review . Some don't, but they are still a place where you could express yourselves. In my opinion, Page & Spine is a better literary journal for me. It accepts pieces from any place or age, and it pays. Page & Spine's acceptance rate is between 60% to 70%, quite a lot. Some literary journals might want you to pay them to publish a piece. I don't like those, but if you have money and want to express yourself more than others, then you could use those journals.
